Dr. Burch is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Maine and Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in psychology from Siena College, followed by her master's degree in Clinical Psychology through the College of St. Joseph. Dr. Burch holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Northcentral University.
Dr. Burch continually attends conferences and trainings to further her education and skill base. She has experience and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialetical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and numerous other modalities.
Dr. Burch has been in the field since 2007 and enjoys working with a variety of clients ranging in ages as well as presenting concerns. She has experience working with children, teens, and their families, as well as individuals who are coping with mental health diagnoses, adjustment or life concerns, or general struggles related to stress management. Dr. Burch utilizes a combination of individual, couples, traditional talk therapy, EMDR, and animal-assisted therapy in working with her clients.
Dr. Burch has practiced in a variety of settings, including family centers, hospital inpatient units, intensive outpatient centers, and the family court system. She has a strong belief in treating each client based upon their strengths, and seeks to empower them to improve their own lives.
Dr. Burch often utilizes a multi-dimensional approach to best meet her clients' needs. It is important to Dr. Burch that the therapy process fosters growth, learning, and skill mastery. Helping her clients to learn how to become more communicative, assertive, and healthy overall is important to Dr. Burch. Specialties include trauma, anxiety, and chronic pain/complex medical issues.
In addition to having training in traditional mental health counseling, Dr. Burch also has education and training in animal-assisted therapy interventions, including dog and equine therapy, which she attempts to utilize with her clients when appropriate.
Dr. Burch is a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH) indicating advanced training in providing mental health counseling through virtual means including telephone and HIPAA compliant video conferencing software.
Dr. Burch is an avid horsewoman, and has spent her entire life learning about horses. She enjoys competing or just spending quiet time with her horses. Dr. Burch has found a way to fuse her passion for horses with her mental health experience and obtained certification in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, which she offers to her patients.
Dr. Burch has always loved animals, and has a number of rescued animals for which she provides care. Dr. Burch at times brings her dogs into sessions for client comfort and assistance and also competes in agility with her dogs.
Dr. Burch loves spending time in nature. When the weather is nice you can find her on the water kayaking, hiking with her dogs, camping, and adventuring.
Dr. Burch has always loved art and engaging in creative ventures. She tries to encourage her patients to utilize their creative outlets or special skills as a tool to thrive in every day life. Dr. Burch loves to paint, draw, color, and create unique decorations, such as horse head wreathes or horseshoe art.
